Kiosk Devices

Set up a shared clocking terminal that multiple employees can use to clock in and out without logging into their personal accounts.

The Kiosk is a shared clocking terminal where multiple employees can clock in and out without each needing to log in individually. Unlike the mobile app — where each person signs in with their own account — the kiosk is always on and ready for any employee to identify themselves and clock.

Authentication methods

The kiosk supports three authentication methods:

  • Code — The employee enters a numeric code.
  • Username and password — The employee enters their MyChronos credentials.
  • NFC contactless card — The employee taps their card on the reader. This is the most common method.

Hardware options

The kiosk can run on any Android tablet by downloading the app from Google Play, or accessed from any device via the browser at kiosk.mychronos.app.

MyChronos also offers the MyChronos Kiosk Pro, a tablet purpose-built for this use:

  • Wall-mount bracket included
  • Power over Ethernet (PoE) option — no power cable needed
  • Built-in front-facing NFC card reader

Managed devices

If you are using a MyChronos Kiosk Pro or another device managed by MyChronos, the device will already be set up for you. You do not need to create it manually.

What employees can do on the kiosk

  • Clock in and out for their workday
  • Start and end a break
  • Check their calendar
  • Validate their time records

Setting up a kiosk device

Go to /panel/devices and click Create Device.

Name the device

Enter a name as a reference — for example, the office location or tablet model. You will use this name later if you need to update the configuration.

Note the registration code

A registration code is automatically generated. You will need this code to link the physical kiosk app to this device configuration.

Once the device is created, if it has not yet been registered, a QR code icon appears in the device list row. Tap it to display a QR code that you can scan directly from the kiosk app to complete the registration — no need to manually enter the company name or activation code on the kiosk screen.

Assign a workplace (optional)

Select a workplace to associate all clocking records from this terminal with that location.

Choose authentication methods

Select which authentication methods employees can use on this kiosk: Code, Username and password, and/or NFC card.

Configure hidden actions (optional)

Select any kiosk actions you want to hide from the main menu — for example, if you do not use breaks, you can hide that option.

Configure project options (optional)

Two options are available if your company uses the Projects module:

  • Do not ask for project on check-in — By default, employees are asked which project they are working on when clocking in. Enable this to skip that prompt.
  • Only show projects from the workplace — If a workplace is assigned, only projects linked to that workplace will appear in the selector.

Set the language

Choose the language in which the kiosk interface will be displayed.

Registering NFC cards for employees

Once the kiosk is set up, you can assign an NFC card to each employee directly from the kiosk device.

Open the kiosk settings

On the kiosk screen, go to the Settings menu and authenticate using one of the configured methods. You must authenticate as an administrator.

ℹ️

No NFC cards registered yet?

If the kiosk only has NFC as an authentication method and no cards have been registered, temporarily enable Username and password in the device configuration so you can access the settings screen for the first time.

Go to Register NFC cards

In the settings screen, navigate to the Register NFC cards section and select the employee you want to assign a card to.

Scan the card

Tap the + button next to the employee. When the card icon appears with an animated indicator, place the NFC card on the reader (the area marked with the card symbol on the tablet).

  • Green check — The card was registered successfully.
  • Red cross — The registration failed. Try again.
⚠️

NFC card reading tips

If the card fails to register more than once, try holding it against the reader for a couple of seconds instead of tapping and removing quickly. You can also try positioning it slightly higher or lower than the card symbol indicator.
